It is with deep sorrow and regret we bid farewell to Mr. Nanda Ram Baidya who passed away on August 15, 2017. In memory of the affable and ever encouraging figure the Centre for Self-help Development (CSD) held a memorial on August 17, 2017 in its office premise. The memorial was attended by the Board and CSD family and the staff of Swabalamban Laghubitta Bikas Bank Ltd.

A beloved figure, Mr. Nanda Ram Baidya was one among the nine like-minded individuals who first conceptualized the idea of CSD and played a continuous role in bringing CSD to where it stands today. Over the years he also guided the Centre from 1996 to 2004 in the capacity of Chairman. Later from 2004to 2014 he also provided leadership and vision to the Swabalamban Laghubitta Bikas Bank Ltd. as Chairman.

With his rich experience of work in the economic development sector, Mr. Baidya also served at the Centre for Rural Technology (CRT) as Management Advisor. He contributed to the Agricultural Development Bank Ltd. in various capacities retiring as Deputy General Manager after three decades of service.

The untimely demise of Mr. Baidya has come as a great shock and loss to all who knew him. Speaking at the memorial Chairman of CSD, Mr. Shankar Man Shrestha lamented, “I still cannot believe that our 51 years of journey has come to an end. He was more than just a friend to CSD and me. His friendly and helpful nature made him beloved by everyone who knew him. It is a huge loss that we do not have him amidst us today. My heartfelt condolences to his family. He will always be in my thoughts.”

CSD Board Members Dr. Sumitra Manandhar Gurung and Mr. Ram Kumar Shrestha both recalled the moments shared with Mr. Baidya and acknowledge his role in helping individuals and institutions grow and develop.

The entire CSD Family will miss the presence of a jovial and beloved family member. His contribution and guidance will forever be remembered. Our prayers and thoughts are with the bereaved family. May his soul rest in peace.
